After years of using the name FIFA, EA will officially rename its football simulation game to EA Sports FC.

Following the rumors that have been circulating since March, EA Sports will officially rename its football simulation series from FIFA to EA Sports Football Club. After 30 years of partnership, both EA Sports and FIFA are parting ways. The end of the partnership is also the beginning for FIFA to develop its own football simulation game.
According to PCgamer.com, after parting ways with EA Sports, FIFA will collaborate with another developer to create its own football simulation game. The game is planned to begin development in 2023 after breaking the contract with EA Sports.
EA Sports Vice President, David Jackson told BBC that both the world of football and the world of entertainment are changing, and both clash within their product.
"In the future, our players will demand of us the ability to be more expansive in that offering. At the moment, we engage in play as a primary form of interactive experience. Soon, watching and creating content are going to be equally as important for fans." said David.
"Under the licensing conventions that we had agreed with Fifa 10 years ago, there were some restrictions that weren't going to allow us to be able to build those experiences for players" he added.
Based on what he said, this is certainly good news for fans of EA Sports’ football game series. Because previously, these games have been raking in profits from fans, which is certainly profitable for FIFA as the licensor.
So far, EA Sports has benefited greatly from obtaining the full license given by FIFA. However, it hinders EA Sports’ creativity in developing the potential of the franchise given the rules that have been mutually agreed upon.
Despite having officially parted ways with FIFA, EA Sports guarantees that its football franchise will still have its existing license that covers 300 individual partners, more than 19,000 athletes, 700 teams, 100 stadiums, and 30 leagues around the world. However, EA Sports didn’t specify which crucial license will remain.
Aside from the limitations due to the licensing, EA Sports’ relationship with FIFA has been damaged because of the price set by FIFA for the license, which had been raised yearly. The increased price for the license is certainly one of the factors that had been taxing for EA Sports as the publisher and developer of the franchise for over 30 years.
