Kodansha confirmed the anime adaptation of Shuuichi Shigeno's MF Ghost manga on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 by revealing the anime visual and trailer. MF Ghost will premiere in 2023.

The MF Ghost visual features protagonist Kanata Livington's red Toyota 86 car, as well as rival cars, the Alpine A110S, and Nissan GT-R. The MF Ghost trailer features true-to-life engine audio for the Toyota 86, Lamborghini Huracan, and Ferrari 488 GTB.

Shuuichi Shigeno (Initial D) serialized MF Ghost in Kodansha's Young Magazine in September 2017. The 12th volume of MF Ghost was published in Japan on September 6, 2021.

The series is set in the 2020s, when self-driving cars are ubiquitous, especially in Japan. This manga tells of Kanata Livington, a Japanese racer who returns to his country after he graduated with the highest grades in his class at a racing school in England. The series also focuses on MFG, a public street racing race that has attracted worldwide attention.

Shigeno ended Initial D in Young Magazine in July 2013. The manga has inspired several anime series, live action films, several OVA projects, and successful video games. The Initial D manga has been adapted into a trilogy of anime films. The third film was released in February 2016.
