The official website for the live-action serial adaptation of Reiji Miyajima's Rent-A-Girlfriend (Kanojo, Okarishimasu) manga announced on Friday, June 10, 2022, that Mio Kudo (Kamen Rider Ghost, Saki Achiga-hen episode A-side, Mashin Sentai Kiramager) will be joining the Rent-A-Girlfriend live-action cast as Ruka Sarashina.

The staff of Rent-A-Girlfriend live-action also posted photos from the first episode. Idol group Naniwa Danshi member Ryusei Onishi (Seiho Boys' High School! live-action ) and actress Hiyori Sakurada (Tokyo Ghoul live-action, Twilight) will play the protagonists Kazuya Kinoshita and Chizuru Mizuhara. Shiori Akita plays Mami Nanami.

The Rent-A-Girlfriend live-action series will air on TV Asahi Broadcasting Corporation's channel in July every Sunday at 11:55, and will also air on TV Asahi on Saturday at 26:30 in Japan region time. Daisuke Yamamoto (Ossan's Love franchise) is directing, and Kumiko As (Marumo no Okite) is writing the script.

Reiji Miyajima serialized the Rent-A-Girlfriend manga in Kodansha's Shonen Weekly Magazine in July 2017. The series received an anthology manga as well on August 17, 2020.

The manga also inspired an anime series that premiered in July 2020 and aired for 12 episodes. Crunchyroll streams the anime worldwide except in Asia. The second season will premiere on the Super Animeism programming block on MBS, TBS, and their 26 affiliates on July 1, 2022.
