Are you one of Bleach’s fans? If yes, there’s good news for you because your lovely anime will get a new episode after a vacuum a few years ago.

This good news came alongside the 20th birthday of Bleach manga which fell on Saturday (21/3). During the live streaming titled “Bleach 20th Anniversary Project”, the creator, Tite Kubo, announced the continuation of his creation that will air next year.

The anime is scheduled to adopt the Thousand Year Blood War” arc which already told in the manga from volume 55 to 74., marking that next year won't serve a reboot, but instead a continuation.

Via his Twitter account, Kubo shares his feelings when making sure the return of Ichigo Kurosaki and friends to the screen “(Bleach anime) has been a long time, maybe everyone forgets about it, even I already forget about it. I think the Thousand Year Blood War arc never get realized, so I didn’t expect that this project will come following the 20th birthday (of Bleach),” wrote Kubo.

About Bleach

For those who unfamiliar enough, Bleach is a manga that tells about a high school student named Ichigo Kurosaki who suddenly must work as a soul reaper due to his meetings with another soul reaper named Rukia Kuchiki.

Before coming into anime, Bleach came from a manga of the same name by Tite Kubo and first released in 2001 on Shonen Jump. Since its debut, this manga gained many fans due to interesting storylines and beautiful artwork.

Because of its popularity, this manga once included in Shonen Jump’s Big 3 alongside One Piece and Naruto. This thing makes Bleach immediately received an anime adaptation not long after its debut in the magazine.

With a total of 74 volumes that spans from 2001 to 2016 and more than 360 anime episodes aired from 2004 to 2012, the quality is no longer to be in doubt. Sadly, fans cannot forget the drastic degradation towards the series’ epilogue.

Towards the end, fans got questioned with Kubo’s monotone storyline. Aside from the catchy graphics since its debut due to its distinct art style, it slowly turns uninteresting and straightforward. Those things look like the reason why the anime stopped without showing the epilogue back in 2012.

But a few years ago, Bleach managed to gain popularity due to the live-action movie that received positive reviews. Hope that the anime’s continuation next year can bring the same thrill akin to the live-action one.

Burn the Witch, a Bleach Spinoff

Still on the same live-stream event, Kubo also announced that his short manga, Burn the Witch will receive an anime adaptation next year. This manga is a spinoff that still takes place in Bleach’s universe.

Instead of following soul reaper’s adventures in Japan, in this anime, you will see teenage witches in London. Aside from facing Hollow as their enemies, those witches will also encounter many mythical creatures from western folklore like dragons.

Let’s wait for the anime series which will air next year.
