Before talking deep about the reason why Gildarts and Shanks look similar, let’s find out who is Gildarts. GIldarts is a mage from the Fairy Tail guild with an S rank, making him at the level of Laxus, Erza, and Mystogan. He is also the fifth guild leader and the father of Cana Alberona.

Gildarts has a magic ability called Crush. With this magic, Gildarts can pulverize anything that came into contact with him into pieces. This magic can also nullify other forms of magic, erase its effect, or reflect it. Usually, anyone hit with the crush magic transformed into blocks, just like Natsu when he faces Gildarts.

After he lost against Acnologia, Gildarts lost several body parts like his left arm and leg. Fortunately, Gildarts can survive and live using a prosthetic leg and arm. If we examine carefully, Gildarts has the injury as Shanks, and that is on their left arm.
