Gadget | 08 October
We are now counting the days until Sony Interactive Entertainment releases PlayStation 5. More information about the console has been revealed, from the specification, features, to its price. And Sony made another surprise by sharing a video of how to open the next-gen console.
In the 7 minute video, the head of the mechanical design department in SIE, Yasuhiro Ootori, teardown PlayStation5 disc version in detail. He explains the position of the USB Type-A and Type-C ports at the front. And at the back, you can see 2 USB Type-A ports, a LAN port, an HDMI port, and a Power port.
Ootori also explains on how to take out the stand and store the screw, and how to put on the stand so you can place your PlayStation 5 horizontally. By lifting and sliding the white covers, we can see how the console looks like inside. The thing we will notice first is the cooling fan that is bigger than PS4 cooling fan. On the side, we can see an additional M.2 slot where the user can put a PCIe 4.0 storage to expand the storage.
Ootori then continues to dissect the PS5 by tearing the seal and unscrew more bolts, where he can take out the 120x45 mm cooling fan. The cooling fan pulls air from both sides of the PlayStation 5 vent. Allowing better air circulation to disperse the heat coming from the internal hardware of the console. Ootori also shows us the bottom part, where the Ultra HD Blu-Ray drive is located.
After completely tearing down the PS5, Ootori also shows the mainboard, the home of AMD Ryzen “Zen 2”, GPU AMD Radeon RDNA 2, and the 825 GB SSD. when you flip the board, you can see the 16 GB GDDR6 RAM that is divided into 8 pieces that surround the CPU.
