The Best Strategy to Get the Max Payout in the Cayo Perico Heist
If done quickly, you can complete all of the missions in just less than an hour!

As one of the newest activities in GTA Online, the Cayo Perico Heist is the best way for GTA Online players to make as much money as possible in the shortest time possible.
While it may seem very complex at first glance, in a closer look, the Cayo Perico Heist is probably the easiest and the fastest to pull off a heist in GTA Online. To this moment, there are lots of players who have completed the Cayo Perico Heist finale in less than five minutes.
The payout is also very enticing. If you’re playing solo, you can end up gaining $1,000,000 - $2,000,000 from each mission. To put it simply, the Cayo Perico heist is the most lucrative solo activity in GTA Online.
However, before you jump into the Cayo Perico Heist, there are certain things that you need to understand and are required to carry out these heists. Otherwise, you will find it difficult to pull off the Cayo Perico Heist.
On this occasion, I would like to give you the best strategy for you to complete the Cayo Perico Heist quickly. This strategy works well with 1-4 people. Yet, of course, the more players take part in these heists, you will need some adjustments to the strategy.
So, what’s the strategy, you ask? Take a look.
Step 1: Scoping Out (Gather Intels)
One of the most time-consuming processes in the Cayo Perico Heist is the scope out missions, which aim to find out the targets in El Rubio’s compound. During these scope out missions, you can also search for equipment that can be used later on in the heist.
For this strategy, you don’t need to scope out so many targets. The most important thing to do is to go to the Communications Tower and find out which of the main targets are in El Rubio’s compound.
Aside from that, you also have to check inside El Rubio’s office if there are two paintings in there. If there are indeed two of them, you don’t need to scope out for secondary targets, and you can go back straight to Los Santos.
However, if there’s only one painting in El Rubio’s office, you may have to scope out the warehouses and look for the drugs, which is the second most expensive secondary target after gold. And if there’s no painting at all, then you need to look for two warehouses that have drugs in each of them.
This strategy is only suitable for solo players. If you’re planning on having a team of 2-3 players, you need to pay attention to the number of gold inside El Rubio’s compound since each player will only be able to carry 1.5 gold. So, if there are three gold, it’d be smarter to carry out the heist with no more than two people to get the max payout.
Bear in mind that the secondary targets inside the compound are stored in a special vault. Thus, it will take two people and two keycards to gain access to the room. Therefore, it’s highly advised for solo players not to focus on any kind of secondary targets in the vault.
Yet it’s a different case for a 4-players squad as most often than not, players will still have a space in their bags even though they’ve taken all of the secondary targets from the compound. So, if you’re planning on doing the Cayo Perico Heist in a 4-players squad, you and your team have to look for the drugs in the warehouses outside El Rubio’s compound.
Step 2: Prep Mission
For a squad of 1-3 players, the best strategy to infiltrate the compound is by using the Kosatka and escape the island by swimming. I’ve included the prep missions needed for this strategy:
- Kosatka (Approach Vehicle)
- Safe Code (Equipment)
- Fingerprint Cloner (Equipment)
- Cutting Torch (Equipment)
- Crackshot/Aggressor + Suppressor (Weapon Loadout)
Of the many prep missions available, only those five are needed for this strategy.
As for the weapon loadout, the ones that I recommend the most are Crackshot and Aggressor. Crackshot consists of a Sniper Rifle, AP Pistol, Molotov, and a knife. While the Aggressor consists of an Assault Shotgun, Machine Pistol, Machete, and grenades.
Step 3: Raiding El Rubio’s Island
Now, once you’ve done all of the preparations, it’s time to plunder El Rubio’s island. Here’s the setup for the heist:
- Approach Vehicle: Kosatka
- Infiltration Point: Drainage Tunnel
- Compound Entry: Drainage Tunnel
- Exit Point: Kosatka
- Weapon Loadout: Crackshot/Aggressor + Suppressor
Once you’ve infiltrated El Rubio’s compound with the Kosatka, the first thing you have to find is the gate keys to open the underground vault, which stores the primary target.
These keys are usually carried by one of the guards chatting near the pool, or the one near the main gate, or the one on the staircase that leads to El Rubio’s office.
If you’re doing this solo, you just need to find the key for the gate. But if you’re doing the heist with a squad, you have to distribute the tasks. One player will have to look for the key to the gate, one for the keycard from the guards, and the last one will have to take the keycard in El Rubio’s office.
Three routes will lead you to the underground vault: by the stairs near the west gate; via the hidden pathway near the east gate as shown in the picture above; and via the elevator in El Rubio’s office.
Keep in mind that to gain access to El Rubio’s elevator, you will need to hack three locks. So, it will be easier and faster to get to the underground vault via the hidden gate.
Once you’ve unlocked the gate, the first thing you need to do is to grab the primary target. But if you’re in a squad, it’d be smarter to open the vault first as it takes two players.
Once you’ve secured the primary target and all of the secondary targets in El Rubio’s compound, you and your friends can go straight to escape the compound. But if you still have some space left in your bag, you can loot more of the secondary targets outside of the compound to get a max payout.
Step 4: Escape from Cayo Perico
There are many methods to get out of Cayo Perico. You can use the Main Dock or the North Dock, or you can also fly the Velum at the Airstrip.
However, the fastest method to escape Cayo Perico is by swimming after leaving the compound. The one thing you’ll need to do is to take a bike to the western coast and start swimming, and the mission will be completed once you’ve reached a certain point. Bear in mind that to be able to use this method, you have to select the Kosatka as your Escape Point.
So, that was the best strategy at the time to pull off the Cayo Perico Heist. With this strategy, many players have been able to complete all of the prep and finale missions in less than an hour, and most importantly, with a huge payout.
