Having reportedly lost 200K subscribers in Q1 of 2022, Netflix seems to still be struggling with the decline in subscribers. As a matter of fact, this has made the streaming platform make some cuts by scaling down its animated film projects.

According to The Wrap, the projects include an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s "The Twits", which was supposed to be a featured film, "Toil and Trouble" by Laurent Faust also got canceled, even an animated series based on the comic book "Bone" by Jeff Smith, which fans have been waiting for.

Aside from scaling down the projects in its animation department, Netflix has also fired executives, such as Phil Rynda, who was the Director of Creative Leadership and Development for Original Animation Netflix, alongside some of his staff.

After losing more than 200,000 subscribers in early 2022, Netflix projected that it would gain 2.5 million new subscribers during the period, whereas in fact, it only managed to gain 500,000 new subscribers. Plus, with Netflix shutting down its service in Russia, it lost 700,000 subscribers from the country. So, in total, the streaming platform has lost almost 222 million subscribers worldwide.

The declining number of subscribers in Q1 of 2022 also affected Netflix shares. Netflix shares are reported to have plummeted 25% in the US stock market. This also resulted in the company being valued at 'just' USD 30 billion. The loss of subscribers directly affects Netflix’s performance as Netflix’s net profit fell from USD 17 billion to USD 16 billion in Q1 of 2022. That’s why Netflix chose to cut down its animated film projects as a solution.
