Do you know that if a movie premiered in Indonesia, it went through various processes. One of them is censorship. It’s done to avoid certain things from being seen due to the prohibition or regulation.
In Indonesia, several films are heavily censored so some scenes are cut out. Resulting in the viewers who were expecting to watch the movie in full getting disappointed. What are those films? See the full list below.
1. Deadpool
Still remember Deadpool? This film is adapted from a Marvel character is released in Indonesia. It’s known that Deadpool is an R-rate film (restricted), meaning those who are under 17 years old can watch the only if they are with an adult.
The film did have brutal and vulgar scenes, so the Deadpool film was given the D (Adult) rating. But the Deadpool film still received heavy censorship. Some Marvel fans are quite disappointed with this.
2. Deadpool 2
Not just the first Deadpool, Deadpool 2 was also heavily censored when aired in Indonesia. The film with an adult rating had to suffer from the heavy edit so the duration is shorter. But it wasn’t done by the Indonesian Film Censorship Institute (LSF), but rather by 20th Century Fox Indonesia. Citing Idntimes.com, it was explained that the final cut of Deadpool 2 for Indonesia was revised as per LSF request. So out of 119 minutes, 3 minutes are removed from Deadpool 2.
3. Hellboy
Next is the Hellboy film which was also a subject of scene and duration cut when premiered in Indonesia. This superhero film was full of brutal scenes such as beheading, mutilation, and bloody scenes. Having only been in the theatres for a few days, many fans are left disappointed because of the removed scenes. Several crucial scenes were even removed.

4. Midsommar
The thriller film by Ari Aster, Midsommar was released in Indonesia in 2019. The film was reportedly failed to be released because it failed to pass the censorship due to the vulgar scenes. But Midsommar managed to pass the LSF Indonesia censorship and released it to theatres. However, the duration and scenes of Midsommar were cut. Some scenes that are too brutal and vulgar had t be removed. A lot of the audiences were disappointed because they can enjoy the movie to the fullest.
5. Parasite
Next is Parasite which is also a subject of several scenes being cut when released in Indonesia. This thriller film had several brutal scenes which forced LSF Indonesia to remove the scene before it was released to the public. Resulting in several crucial scenes being removed.
6. The Raid
The action film by director Gareth Evans, The Raid, was also a subject of censorship before it was finally aired in Indonesia. The film showed a lot of brutal and aggressive scenes. Still, the producer Ario Sagantoro is thankful that not too many scenes were cut out.
7. Mortal Kombat
The new Mortal Kombat film passed the censorship program before it was released to theatres. The film adapted from a video game did promise bloody and brutal scenes. So it worries the fans. Knowing that LSF Indonesia is very strict about it. And as expected, Mortal Kombat in Indonesian theatres was a subject of many scenes being cut out, especially during the Fatality scenes.
