Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), the long-awaited sequel to GTA 5 released back in 2013, has officially been delayed until May 26, 2026. While the delay has sparked speculation among fans, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has offered a reassuring explanation—emphasizing their commitment to quality.

In an interview with IGN, Zelnick revealed that the decision to delay GTA 6 was made to give Rockstar Games additional time to perfect their creative vision without limitations. According to him, reaching the final stages of developing such a major title often reveals the need for “continued polish.” As a result, even a “small but meaningful” amount of extra time is considered essential to ensure the final product meets Rockstar’s high standards.

Zelnick acknowledged that while the delay is personally painful as the company’s leader, he fully supports the decision. He stressed that the most important thing is to back the developers in their pursuit of perfection. This stance reflects strong trust in Rockstar’s creative team, which is well known for its uncompromising approach to quality.

The year will still see major releases like Mafia: The Old Country in August and Borderlands 4 in September. These titles are expected to maintain the company’s momentum ahead of GTA 6’s arrival.
