Yoshihiro Togashi, creator of the Hunter x Hunter manga, revealed four potential scenarios for ending his long-running series. In a television talk show, Togashi revealed that of the four endings he had in mind, he had developed three of them. The fourth ending, which was left behind, was revealed as an anticipation if Togashi died before completing the Hunter x Hunter manga. Currently, Togashi is 57 years old.
Hunter x Hunter's fourth ending, called "ending D," takes place after the time jump to the future. A girl named Gin, like the beginning of the manga, fishes in a pond and catches a giant fish.
Proudly, he took the fish to his mother, declaring that he would never be asked to be a Hunter again, and left his mother with the fish. Gin's mother discusses with his father, feeling disappointed because her daughter doesn't want to become a Hunter like his famous grandfather, Gon.
After a scene change, Gin reveals that he refused to become a Hunter because his grandfather, Gon, often left his grandmother, Nouko, alone at home while on adventures as a Hunter. Gin vows to never leave the island and always be with someone, while a boy enters the room.
The final scene of D Hunter x Hunter's ending shows a bird flying into the sky while quelqu'un watches.
Togashi hopes to find a satisfying ending so that he doesn't need to use endings A, B, or C, which he estimates will get mixed responses from readers. Although ending A was considered the "safest" option and would not attract controversy, Togashi preferred ending C, despite predictions that it would receive significant negative criticism from fans.
The Hunter x Hunter manga went on hiatus in January 2023 due to Togashi's health problems. After an absence of almost four years, the manga returned with its 47th issue in 2022 which was released in October 2022. The 37th volume of the manga was published by Shueisha in November 2022.
Togashi hinted that the Hunter x Hunter comic will return soon after its hiatus. The manga was first published in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1998 and has inspired two television anime series, two anime films, and several OVAs.
