Aokiji or Kuzan was an Admiral in the Marines, and now he is a member of the Blackbeard Pirates, although his motive for joining the Blackbeard Pirates is still unknown. These are some facts about Aokiji, go right ahead and read it below! 

1. The Youngest Admiral 

Aokiji became an Admiral when he was 47 years old, while Akainu and Kizaru were 53 and 58 years old, respectively. Although he is the youngest out of the three, he is much more mature in comparison to the other Admirals. It is because both Aokiji and Fujitora has the real sense of justice from all of the Admirals in the Marines, and Fujitora is 54 years old. 

2. The First to Beat All of Straw Hat Pirates by Himself 

Aokiji is the first to beat all of Straw Hat Pirates all by himself, and it’s a total humiliation for the crew. Even Zoro and Sanji that are known as great fighters, were KOed by Aokiji. Although Aokiji manages to take the team down, he decides to let go. Aokiji felt thankful to Luffy after Luffy beat Crocodile, the Shichibukai that Aokiji hates the most. 

3. Exploring the Grand Line 

Even though he is lazy, Aokiji is diligent when doing some things, for example, when he explores the Grand Line using a bicycle, although the idea of doing it seen as either thorough or crazy because even Luffy requires a long time to explore and cross the Grand Line using Going Merry. 

If exploring and crossing the Grand Line using a ship requires a long time, then imagine the amount of time Aokiji spends on his bicycle to do that. 

4. Indebted to Garp 

Aokiji is close to Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp. Aokiji also indebted to Garp even though the deed that Garp had done is still unknown. He is a fan of Garp because Garp refuses to be promoted. From Aokiji that’s a cool decision. Maybe this debt is the reason why Aokiji let Luffy and his crews go after beating them. 

5. Hates the Shichibukai 

Just like Sengoku, Aokiji also hates the Shichibukai system. One of the Shicibukai members that he hates the most is Crocodile. Because of that,  he is grateful when Luffy takes Crocodile down because it also makes Aokiji’s job easier. 

But that doesn’t mean he hates all of the Shichibukai members because he has a deep respect for Jinbei, and it can be seen during the battle at the Marine Ford when Aokiji apologizes to Jinbei before he freezes the sea to prevent Luffy and Jibei from escaping. 

6. A Wise Figure 

This former Admiral is a wise man. For example, during the Buster Call attack on Ohara island, he let Nico Robin escape by creating an ice path so she can find a place to live. 
He is also a man of his words because when Luffy faces him, Aokiji promised not to attack the other Straw Hat Pirates members, and true to his words, he never does so.

7. Inspired by Yusaku Matsuda

Oda made Aokiji based on Yusaku Matsuda. The late Yusaku Matsuda is a veteran actor that played a role in Detective Story, and you can see the inspiration from the similar hair and styling on both Matsuda and Aokiji.

Even Aokiji’s date of birth is made to be similar to Matsuda. This adaptation is an homage done by Oda for Yusaku Matsuda.
