On December 15, Rockstar released a DLC for GTA Online that’s quite different from the previous ones. Touted as the biggest DLC ever, the Cayo Perico Heist does offer a new experience for players. It comes with a new map and a complex heist mission.

In the Cayo Perico Heist, players’ main objective is to raid a private island owned by the drug lord, El Rubio. El Rubio has set up a vast cannabis plantation on the island, and stores lots of his valuables, such as Weed, Cocaine, Cash, Paintings, and Gold.

In this heist, you will have two kinds of targets. Primary Targets, and Secondary Targets. Both will pay you a lot, and what makes it amazing is that the Cayo Perico Heist can be done solo.

While it’s rather complex, the Cayo Perico Heist is actually pretty easy to pull off. And to get the best payout in the fastest way possible, you need to understand the basics to play the Cayo Perico Heist.

How Do You Start the Cayo Perico Heist?

The first thing to do to begin the Cayo Perico Heist is by entering the Music Locker, north of the Diamond Casino. Once you’re in, you’ll be greeted by Miguel and Patricia Madrazo, Martin Madrazo’s son, and wife. They will reveal their plans to raid El Rubio, and your journey will begin.

After meeting them, the Rune Kosatka, a new submarine, will be available on Warstock Cache and Carry. The Rune Kosatka is the only prerequisite to unlock the Cayo Perico Heist. So, you need to purchase it.

Inside the Kosatka, you will meet Pavel, who will be your first mate throughout the Cayo Perico Heist. In addition to that, inside the Kosatka, you will also have a Planning Screen, where you will access your activities and the detailed info of the heist you’re about to pull off.

After that, the first thing you need to do on Cayo Perico is to find out the valuables that you can loot in El Rubio’s compound, as well as the items that can help you on your heist. These items are Bolt Cutters, the Grappling Hook, Guard Clothing, and so on. This island observation process will be referred to as Scoping later on.

Aside from that, you also have to find potential spots for you to get in and out of the island, the compound, and which secondary targets are available for you to grab on the heist later.

What Are Secondary Targets?

Secondary targets are the side items that you can grab while you’re pulling off the Cayo Perico Heist. As the name suggests, secondary targets aren’t your primary objectives. Your main loot will be the primary targets, which can be found in the underground storage room at El Rubio’s compound.

To put it simply, secondary targets only serve as your bonus payouts, and you can ignore them altogether.

So far, there are five secondary targets that can be found on Cayo Perico. Two of them are located inside the compound, and the rest are outside the compound. Here are the secondary targets that you can steal:

• Cash - $86,000 per loot, max 3x loot
• Weed - $146,000 per loot, max 3x loot
• Painting $199,000 per loot, max 2x loot
• Cocaine $222,000 per loot, max 2x loot
• Gold $331,000 per loot, max 2x loot

As you can see, it’d be smarter to take all the gold in El Rubio’s compound since it offers the biggest payout. But keep in mind that the gold is stored in a room that requires two keycards to unlock, which means you’re going to need another player to pull off the heist.

Aside from that, the secondary targets in each warehouse will vary in every heist. However, the location of these warehouses will remain the same, but the content will change.

Infiltration Points, Escape Points & Compound Entry

Since you are about to pull off a heist on an entire island, surely you have to come up with a foolproof plan. From how you’re going to infiltrate the island, how you’re going to get to the compound, and how to get out after raiding the loots.

Therefore, during the scoping process, you have to find potential spots, from Infiltration Points, Escape Points, to Compound Entry. You need to cover all of these categories during the scoping, as these categories must be taken into considerations during the preparation of the heist.

On top of that, you will only be doing the scoping process for these categories once as they will not be reset when you’re running a new heist.

Points of Interest

When carrying out the scoping process, one of the most important things is to find the Points of Interest on Cayo Perico. In total, there are six Points of Interest, and here are the functions of each Point of Interest:

• Control Tower: Cayo Perico air defense center. If disabled, you will be able to call for an Airstrike, Helicopter Cover, Recon Drone, etc.
• Power Station: The main power supply on Cayo Perico. If disabled, all cameras on the island will be turned off. But bear in mind that the power supply for the compound will still be running. So, turning off the power station won’t give you any significant advantage.
• Guard Clothing: Wear this to blend in with the other guards.
• Supply Truck: Use this vehicle to gain access to El Rubio’s compound.
• Bolt Cutters: Can be used to cut down the fence to the warehouse, where you can find the secondary targets.
• Grappling Hook: Can be used to gain access to the compound by climbing over the walls.

Keep in mind that on the next heists, the locations for the guard clothing, bolt cutter, and grappling hook might differ. So, if you want to make use of these items, you need to scope for them again.

Equipment & Disruption, Which One Should You Go For?

Aside from those items, you can also bring some equipment from Los Santos. There are four items that you can bring to the island, two items are mandatory, and the others are optional.

• Demolition Charges (optional): One of the items that you can use to blow the main gate to El Rubio’s compound.
• Safe Code (required): The codes required to unlock El Rubio’s safe. Pavel will send you these codes once you’ve found the safe.
• Fingerprint Cloner (required): A tool for hacking the entrance to the underground storage room.
• Cutting Torch (optional): If you decide to gain entrance from the drainage tunnel, you need to bring this item to cut open the grate.

In addition to those items, you can also cripple Cayo Perico’s defense by destroying their equipment, such as their weapons, armor, or air support.

You need to carry out all of these three disruption missions if you’re going for an aggressive approach. But, if you’re going for stealth, you just need to destroy their armors. In fact, you don’t even need to carry out any of those missions if you’re confident you can deal with the guards without getting caught.
