The newest film from The Conjuring Universe, The Nun 2 was officially released in cinemas on September 6. This horror film still tells the story of Valak's terror that survives in the body of Maurice aka Frenchie. Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) will once again face Valak to exorcise the evil demon from the earth. The Nun 2 continues the story of The Nun (2018) which is set 4 years after the events in Saint Cartha, Romania.

The Conjuring Universe began its terrifying journey in 2013 with the release of The Conjuring, which was then followed by two sequels. The film tells the story of a real-life couple named Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Taissa Farmiga) who became famous for investigating paranormal activity in the 1960s.

The three The Conjuring films are based on the Warren family's most terrifying stories and experiences. Meanwhile, other films such as Annabelle and The Nun are origin stories for the haunting demon, Valak.

The following is the order for watching The Conjuring Universe films based on the storyline from the beginning of the incident.

1. The Nun (2018)

The Nun which was released in 2018, is set in 1952 in a monastery in Romania. This film tells the story of Father Burke (Demian Bichir) and a young nun named Irene (Taissa Farmiga) who are sent by the Vatican to investigate the corpse of a nun. They then revealed the origins of the demon named Valak.

2. Annabelle: Creation (2017)

This prequel film to Annabelle (2014) tells the story of the incident in 1955, which explains more about the origins of the Annabelle doll. The story focuses more on the doll maker, Samuel Mullins (Anthony LaPaglia), and his wife (Miranda Otto). This film begins the journey of Ed and Lorraine Warren’s investigations and the origins of Annabelle.

3. The Nun 2 (2023)

The Nun 2 which was just released in September 2023, takes place in 1956, four years after the events of the first film. In this film, Taissa Farmiga returns as a young nun named Irene. The Nun 2 tells the story of Irene who returns to fight Valak after taking a teaching position at a remote boarding school in rural France. 

4. Annabelle (2014)

Set 12 years after the events in "Annabelle: Creation," the film "Annabelle" tells the story of a young couple who experience tragedy after being involved with a mysterious doll. They decided to leave the doll and move to another apartment.

5. The Conjuring (2013)

The Conjuring centers on the lives of Ed and Lorraine Warren who help the Perron family from the demons that haunt their home. In this film, this film also introduced the characters Annabelle and Valak so that they became iconic as they are today.

6. Annabelle Comes Home (2019)

After the Warren family succeeded in bringing Annabelle home in The Conjuring, they then found out what could happen if they kept the doll in the house. And sure enough, it wasn't long before terror and scary incidents haunted the Warren family along with many other spirits and demons that emerged from the museum room. The incident occurred while the Warren family was away.

7. The Curse of La Llorona (2019)

Set in 1977, this film centers on Anna Garcia (Linda Cardellini), a widow who becomes the target of a vengeful spirit. The film has little connection to The Conjuring Universe, as the Warren family story is only briefly mentioned. That's what makes The Curse of La Llorona seem like a different film from other The Conjuring Universe films.

8. The Conjuring 2 (2016)

The Conjuring 2 tells the story of the Warren family as they travel to London to help a family in the suburb of Enfield. Their goal is to help a family that is experiencing the disturbance of a terrible demon, Valak.

9. The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)

And the last film is The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return to play the role of a couple from the Warren family. Both of them help Arne Cheyenne Johnson (Ruairi O'Connor) who is a suspect in a sadistic murder in 1981. This film also depicts the satanic worship rituals introduced in the first two Annabelle films.
