When asked which live-action movies are the best and most successful in the market, maybe the answer is all Rurouni Kenshin movies. Because every Rurouni Kenshin live-action presents the samurai theme that is made with careful preparation to ensure the quality and is thick with cool fights and political aspects of that time.

The combination of accurate historical events with fictional elements makes every Rurouni Kenshin live-action a great movie to watch and generate a lot of profit for Warner Bros. Here, Dunia Games presents the guide to watch all Rurouni Kenshin live-action movies according to the timeline and the synopsis.

1. Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning

This Rurouni Kenshin live-action movie released in 2021 was the final movie of the series, however this live-action movie is actually the prequel to the first four movies. Set in Japan at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate era, Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning tells the story of Kenshin Himura, a young samurai, in the revolutionary faction supporting the Emperor named Ishin Shishi led by Shinsaku Takasugi and Kogoro Katsura.

Exciting political intrigue about the civil war that ushered in a new era of change in Japan is clearly shown in this Rurouni Kenshin live-action movie. Hitokiri Batousai or Battousai the Slaughterer is Kenshin’s nickname who assassinates elite figures supporting the Shogunate to smoothen the revolution by the Meiji Knights. The cross-wound that became Kenshin’s known feature is also found in Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning, along with Kenshin and Tomoe relationship which transforms his attitudes and makes Kenshin stop killing in the new era.

2. Rurouni Kenshin: Origins

The end of the war that moved Japan to a new era is shown in this Rurouni Kenshin live-action movie that was released in 2012. The decisive battle of the Shogunate army against the supporter of the Emperor at Toba Fushimi was a turning point for Japanese history and Kenshin Himura’s life. The last revolutionary war that Kenshin participated in as Battousai was won by the Meiji Knights with Kiheitai troops who had modern combat tactics and equipment.

As the first film in the Rurouni Kenshin live-action saga, Rurouni Kenshin: Origins shows Kenshin's beginnings as a Rurouni or wanderer. The victory of the Emperor's supporters in the Toba-Fushimi battle was why Kenshin stopped being a Battousai because Japan had entered a new era that made him reluctant to kill people again.

The cross-wounded samurai would protect more people than the number of lives he killed during that revolutionary era. Sakabatou or reverse blunt-edged sword is the weapon he carries to protect the people of the new age like Kaoru Kamiya and his other friends.

3. Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno

The Kyoto Arc is arguably the most exciting in Nobuhiro Watsuki’s manga, and it was made into a live-action movie in 2014. Kenshin's rival since the Bakumatsu revolution war named Saito Hajime had to work with Kenshin because the group Juppongatana led by Shishio Makoto, a former Ishin Shishi slayer, is terrorizing Japan.

During the revolution, Home Affair Minister Toshimichi Okubo, Kenshin's comrade killed by Soujiro Seta, Shishio's men, and forces Kenshin who resided in the Kamiya Dojo in Tokyo to travel to Kyoto and stops Shishio and Juppongatana. Overwhelmed against Shishio's group, Kenshin met his master named Seijuro Hiko at the end of Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno.

4. Rurouni Kenshin: Legend Ends

Released in the same year as Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno, this Rurouni Kenshin live-action movie is an immediate sequel to Kenshin’s story after he met his master. His teacher taught Kenshin The ultimate skill of the Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu school named Amakakeru Ryuno Hirameki in Rurouni Kenshin: Legend Ends.

Being the most exciting film of all Rurouni Kenshin live-action movies, the final battle of Kenshin and his friends against Shishio and his troops on the warship named Rengoku is a very dramatic.

5. Rurouni Kenshin: The Final

As the title implies, Rurouni Kenshin: The Final seems to be planned to close the story of Rurouni Kenshin. It's just that the film was released earlier than Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning. Perhaps this is set up in such a way as to connect every Rurouni Kenshi live-action movie to create a looping plot that can be watched over and over again.

Set in Japan in 1879, Saito and the Japanese police are trying to catch the Shanghai mafia, who sell the Rengoku warship used by Shishio's gang to carry out a rebellion. Enishi Yukishiro, leader of the Shanghai mafia cartel turns out to be Kenshin's brother-in-law who wants to avenge his sister's death, and forced the former Battousai to tell his past in Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning to Kaoru and the others and resolve the old conflict.

That’s the Rurouni Kenshin live-action watch order according to the story timeline. Hopefully, this guide can help you enjoy the story more, and let’s hope that the story of Rurouni Kenshin won’t stop here.
