The joint team from Bina Nusantara University (Binus) and Widyatama University has officially been crowned national champion of the VALORANT Summer Protocol 2025, an amateur-level tournament initiated by Riot Games Indonesia to strengthen the competitive VALORANT ecosystem in the country.
A Victory on the National Stage
Held at the Innovation and Creativity Hall of Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta, the grand final saw Binus X Widyatama triumph over Kertanegara Esports in a thrilling match attended by fans and esports communities from across Indonesia.
This victory not only earned Binus X Widyatama the national title, but also a cash prize of IDR 15,000,000 and an exclusive opportunity to witness the VCT Pacific Stage 2 Finals live in Tokyo, Japan, on August 30–31, 2025. This invaluable experience is expected to broaden their perspective and fuel their aspirations of becoming professional VALORANT athletes.
A Celebration of Community and Local Culture
More than just a competitive event, VALORANT Summer Protocol 2025 also served as a community gathering infused with local creative and cultural elements. Attendees were treated to live music performances by local band Skandal, a traditional dance by UKM Swagayugama, and a variety of local MSME booths offering traditional snacks, merchandise, and even temporary tattoos. A photo competition was also held to celebrate the vibrant moments shared at the venue.
The event was graced by notable figures such as Iwan Permana, Head of Creative Economy Development at the Yogyakarta Tourism Office, and Brig. Gen. Firyawan, Chairman of ESI DIY—reflecting strong government and esports association support for the growth of local esports communities.
Government’s Support for Indonesian Esports
Muhammad Neil El Himam, Deputy for Digital Economy and Creative Products at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, expressed his appreciation in a pre-recorded video message.
“We believe Indonesia has the potential to become the Esports Center of Asia. Tournaments like this are concrete steps towards realizing that vision. Through the active involvement of players and communities, we hope not only to discover new talents but also to foster character building, sportsmanship, and a collaborative spirit in the national gaming ecosystem,” he stated.
Riot Games’ Commitment to Young Players
The competition began in early July 2025 through an online qualifier divided into two pathways: the Campus Qualifier for students from dozens of universities, and the NVIDIA iCafe Attack, an open qualifier held across more than 30 internet cafes in collaboration with NVIDIA.
Resha Pradipta, Country Manager of Riot Games Indonesia & Malaysia, said:
“With VALORANT Summer Protocol, we aim to provide amateur players with space to grow, gain confidence, and become part of a positive competitive ecosystem. This aligns with our commitment to bringing esports closer to Indonesia’s youth.”
The grand final match was also broadcast live on VALORANT Indonesia’s official channels, allowing fans and community members from all over the country to tune in and show their support.
