WWE 2K21 Said to be Cancelled This Year
Is the cancellation due to the WWE 2K20 failure at the market?
News | 16 April
Since 2012, 2K as the publisher and the WWE pro wrestling company always active to release the latest title for WWE 2K every year. Even though already ran for eight years straight, a few parties reported that the annual game that will come next, WWE 2K21, is canceled this year.
The shocking news first came from Justin Leeper, who previously in charge of writing the storyline for WWE 2K titles. According to his video on Youtube, Leeper announced that there would be no new WWE 2K this year.
“I’ve already heard from various trusted sources, and I truly believe that WWE 2K21 had been canceled. No WWE 2K this year,” said Leeper in a video that shared on Sunday (12/4).
Usually, WWE relied on WrestleMania momentum, the biggest annual event in WWE, to build up the hype for the latest WWE 2K game. But on WrestleMania 2020, which began at the beginning of this month, there was no news whatsoever regarding WWE 2K21.
Even though it was a speculation, Leeper felt the cancellation caused by a separation between 2K with Yuke’s as the developer that had been working on this series for so long. The situation worsened with COVID-19, which caused 2k required more time to produce the latest WWE 2K21 game as a new developer with Visual Concepts.
Previously, even though there would be no WWE 2K this year, Leeper teased the possibility of 2K would release a new WWE game with a different concept this year. “I recently heard a different WWE game would come out this year. 2K would release a new kind of WWE game without a hand of Visual Concepts,” he added.
