Ubisoft Sued Google Play Store and Apple App Store Because of Area F2
Ubisoft felt that Area F2 video game is plagiarism of Rainbow Six Siege.
News | 20 May
Rainbow Six Siege is one of the main money makers from Ubisoft. With more than 55 million players and 3 million active users every month, this game is one of the valuable assets owned by Ubisoft. So it’s not a weird thing if this French developer doesn’t hesitate to sue other parties that “joining” on their game’s popularity.
This was seen on Friday (15/5) when Ubisoft filed a lawsuit to two giant technology companies: Apple and Google. Ubisoft sued Apple and Google because these two companies showed Area F2 on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Area F2 is a new free-to-play shooter game developed by Ejoy under Alibaba. Ubisoft felt that this game copied their Rainbow Six Siege. “Almost all aspects in Area F2 are the same as seen in Rainbow Six Siege, starting from Operator Selection, score leaderboard screen, and many things”, said Ubisoft on their official statement.
Uniquely, Ubisoft didn’t sue Ejoy and choose Google and Apple instead. Ubisoft said that it already asked two companies to not showing Area F2, but the two companies declined the offer.
If we take a look closer, Area F2 is indeed showing many similarities with Rainbow Six Siege, the only thing that different is Area F2 is a mobile game. Surely it will be interesting to know the continuation of this case.
