The Nichirin Swords are the weapons the Demon Slayers use in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. These swords are forged with Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand and Scarlet Ore, which are found on high mountains, and Wisteria Flower, which the demons in this series aren’t fond of. Aside from that, these swords are also forged in a special technique to absorb sunlight constantly. That’s why Nichirin Swords are highly effective at killing demons, who have a weakness against sunlight.
One of the distinguishable characteristics of these Nichirin Swords is that their color changes the first time their user wields them. That’s why each color represents a certain element and the personality of the user. On this occasion, Dunia Games would like to give you a list of the colors of Nichirin Swords in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and their powers.
11. Yellow Nichirin
Zenitsu Agatsuma’s Nichirin symbolizes Thunder. Zenitsu is a Demon Slayer who uses Thunder Breathing techniques in Kimetsu no Yaiba. He may strike as a coward with low self-esteem, but when he loses consciousness and goes to a sleep state in a critical situation, he shows his true powers with lightning speed. Most Nichirin Swords have solid colors along the blade, but it’s not the case for Zenitsu’s. His sword has a yellow lightning bolt pattern along with black shades along the blade. It’s unknown why Zenitsu’s sword has such a pattern.
10. Indigo-Gray Nichirin
This sword color is arguably perfect to kill demons. Inosuke Hashibira’s Nichirin represents his Beast Breathing techniques. Its shape also differs from most katana that his colleagues use. The blade of Inosuke’s sword is shaped like a predator’s fangs. No one can use these swords properly except for Inosuke. He developed his own breathing techniques during the time he spent in the mountains. This technique becomes one of the most fluid and brutal techniques. Originally derived from the Wind Breathing techniques, Inosuke’s breathing techniques heighten his senses too.
9. White Nichirin
This sword represents the color of the mist in Kimetsu no Yaiba. The only known user of the Mist Breathing technique is Muichiro Tokito, one of the Hashira. Both the color and the techniques come from the Wind Breathing techniques. The Mist Breathing techniques are synonymous with a calm and aloof personality, just like Muichiro who never lets his emotions get in the way of his judgments. This sword may have a standard design, yet it holds tremendous powers, The Mist Hashira can defeat one of the Upper-Rank demons using this sword.

8. Amber Nichirin
Uzui Tengen’s Nichirin has a unique shape than most. His Nichirin is actually two separate cleavers that are chained together. The design of the cleavers represents Uzui’s eccentric style. Despite the size of the cleavers, they don’t hinder Uzui’s movements. They symbolize the Sound Breathing techniques, which are derived from the Thunder Breathing techniques. These techniques rely on noises to distract the opponent. This means that the user of the techniques tends to have an extremely heightened sense of hearing.
7. Red Nichirin
The Red Nichirin symbolizes flame and is used by the Flame Hashira, Rengoku Kyoujuro. Rengoku proudly wields the sword that represents his eccentric personality. This sword also has a unique pattern. A flame pattern runs along the blade with some black shades. This Nichirin looks spectacular and has become the hallmark of the Flame Hashira.
6. Green Nichirin
This sword represents the Wind Breathing techniques, the techniques that inspired the other ones. One of the users is the Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa, who’s also a user of the Wind Breathing techniques. Although the color green may reflect calmness, Sanemi is known as a brutal individual. Sanemi knows no compromise when it comes to demons, even if they’re his own siblings. He is feared by demons as he can unleash a tornado of attacks with his sword.
5. (Dark and Light) Pink Nichirin
These swords represent the Love Breathing techniques, used by one of the Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji. This Hashira used to be mentored by Rengoku, and that’s why her sword gained inspiration from Rengoku’s Flame Breathing. Rengoku is also the one who helped Mitsuri create the Love Breathing techniques, which then she developed herself to suit her style and her unique muscular composition. This sword is very thin and used as a whip. It can even pierce through lightning and sound waves of one of the Upper-Rank Demons. Mitsuri is the only one who can use this weapon without having to worry about harming herself.
Another user of these swords is Kanao Tsuyuri. The sword was passed down by Kanae Kocho, Shinobu Kocho’s older sister and the former Flower Hashira. The color also represents the Flower Breathing technique that they both use.
4. Lavender and Lavender-Blue Nichirin
The user of the Lavender Nichirin is the Serpent Hashira, Iguro Obanai. The Serpent Breathing techniques are derived from the Water Breathing. The shape of his sword is quite unique as it has waves that resemble a twisting snake that suits Obanai’s style.
The Lavender-Blue Nichirin is used by Shinobu Kocho. Her sword symbolizes her Insect Breathing techniques. Unlike other swords that have sharp edges along the blade, Shinobu’s sword only has a sharp edge at the tip of it. Her combat style also resembles insects, with fast, focused stabs to inject the Wisteria Flower poison to paralyze her opponents. The poison is highly potent as it only takes one injection to defeat a demon.
3. Blue Nichirin
This sword is the first Nichirin Sword to appear in the Kimetsu no Yaiba series. Giyu Tomioka’s sword symbolizes water. Giyu is a Water Hashira whose techniques make him one of the best Hashira ever lived. Giyu’s combat style also resembles water as he mimics the flow of the water, effortlessly killing demons. The sword has a long black-blue blade, with the words "Destroy Demons" engraved on one side of the blade.
2. Gray Nichirin
In Kimetsu no Yaiba, Nichirin doesn’t always appear in the form of swords. Gyomei Himejima, the Stone Hashira, has a Nichirin Chained Spiked Flail and Axe. Despite the different shapes, the ax is made of the same core as the other Nichirin. The ax was forged with a higher technique than other swords. Since Gyomei is blind, he relies on his hearing when using the weapon. The Stone Breathing technique aptly reflects Gyomei’s strong and sturdy personality. Despite his intimidating looks, he always speaks softly.
1. Black Nichirin
The sword belonging to the main character of Kimetsu no Yaiba, Tanjiro Kamado, is the most mysterious sword in the series. According to Collider, the black sword represents the sun and is surrounded by prejudice and misconceptions. Aside from that, the color black is also said to be the absorber of all colors. This could also mean that Tanjiro might have the ability to further develop his breathing techniques into various techniques.
No wonder the Black Nichirin is also considered rare. Based on stories, the user of this blade tends to not live a long life. According to some spoilers in the manga, the users of the Black Nichirin are the users of the Sun Breathing techniques as the color black is also known to be a combination of all colors, just like the five main breathing techniques that come from the Sun Breathing techniques.
So, those were the colors of the Nichirin Swords used by the Demon Slayers in Kimetsu no Yaiba. Which one do you think is the most powerful?
