Winter 2021 anime presents an anime that tells us about a teenage romance story. The anime is titled Hori-san to Miyamura-kun or shortened to Horimiya.  

Horimiya is a Romance and Comedy anime airing starting on 10 January 2021 with 13 episodes. The anime is adapted from a manga with the same title that tells us about the school life of Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura.

Horimiya Review

The writer feels like Horimiya is a cute and adorable shoujo anime. But there’s something that makes this anime special.

You will see multiple couples in the anime such as Hori and Miyamura, Tooru and Yuki, also Remi and Kakeru. Each couple will have their own story, starting from their interaction, their intimacy, and their attitude toward a conflict.

You will definitely these couples face conflicts, but there’s no antagonistic character and their evil way to bring others down. The drama is light, hilarious, and very entertaining. It’s a recommended anime if you like teenage love story drama. 

Horimiya Synopsis

Kyouko Hori is a model student at her school because of her grades and her friendly personality. Other students idolize her, but she has a trait that others don’t know.

Hori’s parents work till late in the night so she is the one in charge of housekeeping and takes care of her sibling. That’s why Hori rarely interacts with her friends after school.

On the other side, Izumi Mitamura is known as a loner student who is mistaken for the typical otaku. In reality, he is a kind student that is lacking in his studies. Not to mention, he hide his piercings under his long hair and kept his tattoo hidden with his shirt and jacket - yep, things that are forbidden in school.

One day, Hori met Miyamura, but they don’t recognize each other. Since then, the two polarizing personalities became friends and share secrets only they know.

Izumi Miyamura

• Seiyu: Kouki Uchiyama

The main male lead in Horimiya. At school, Miyamura is a loner and an otaku. But he is relaxed and easygoing outside of school. He dresses like a punk kid with 9 piercings ( 4 on each ear and 1 on his lip) and a back tattoo.

After knowing Hori, Miyamura starts to gain confidence and opens himself to his friends.

Hori and Miyamura started dating after Kyoko’s dad asked him if they are dating or not.

Kyouko Hori

• Seiyu: Haruka Tomatsu

Hori is an elegant girl and idolized in her school. But her appearance changed when she is at home: no makeup, ties her hair, comfortable clothes, and did the household chores while taking care of her sibling.

She doesn’t want her friend to know what she is like when she is at home, but Miyamura finds out and agrees not to tell on each other.

Hori’s feeling toward Miyamura grows after Miyamura confessed when Hori was sick. Hor and Miyamura officially date after her dad asked Miyamura if they are dating or not.

Yuki Yoshikawa

• Seiyu: Yurie Kozaki

Yuki is Hori’s close friend. Yuki was interested in Miyamura after looking at him without his glasses, but she failed to recognize him. Yuki met the handsome Miyamura again with Kyoko, but Kyoko said that he is her cousin.

Yuki met the handsome Miyamura again at Kyoko’s house and introduces himself as Konoha.

Yuki likes Konoha but still consider Miyamura an unattractive otaku.

Tooru Ishikawa

• Seiyu: Seiichiro Yamashita

Tooru likes Hori and is a friend of Miyamura. He finds the two often spend their time together. Tooru also knows about Miyamura’s tattoo and piercings.

Tooru confessed to Hori but turned down. But Miyamura still considers him his closest friend.

Akane Yanagi

• Seiyu: Jun Fukuyama

Yanagi is a student from the next class. He initially liked Yuki. Yanagi is a good-looking and king boy, he has bad eyes but he often breaks his glasses or lost his contact lenses.

Remi Ayasaki

• Seiyu: MAO

Remi is one of the student council members, often mistaken as their mascot. Her body is small and is very cheerful in front of their friends. Remi is a good friend of Sakura and is dating Sengoku.

Kakeru Sengoku

• Seiyu: Nobuhiko Okamoto

Sengoku is Hori’s childhood friend and the head of the student council. He is known for his weak physique yet still reliable. Sengoku is still friends with Miyamura and he is dating Remi.

Sakura Kouno

• Seiyu: Reina Kondo

A member of the student council and the one who did the most work. Sakura is your typical shy and quiet girl. As time pass, she starts to get interested in Tooru.
