The live-action Wind Breaker film is scheduled for release in Japan on December 5, 2025. Adapted from the popular manga by Satoru Nii, the film is directed by Kentarō Hagiwara, who previously directed the live-action Tokyo Ghoul. Filming took place in Okinawa between February and April 2025, with locations recreated to resemble the town of Furin where the story takes place.
The film will adapt the manga's early arcs, including the Introduction Arc and the Shishitoren Arc, which introduce the main character Haruka Sakura and the Bofurin gang. The first teaser visual and behind-the-scenes video have been released on social media, showcasing the manga's distinctive character designs and atmosphere, adapted into a cinematic style. Here's the trailer!
A cast of popular young actors has been announced for the main cast. Koshi Mizukami plays Haruka Sakura, the main character known for her strength and unpredictable personality. He joins Taisei Kido, Keito Tsuna, and JUNON from the group BE:FIRST, who each play her colleagues in the Bofurin gang.
This film is part of the expansion of the Wind Breaker franchise, which already has an anime (produced by CloverWorks), an active manga with over 20 volumes, and a stage play adaptation. In addition to exciting battle scenes and the spirit of shonen camaraderie, the film also includes original story elements developed in collaboration with the manga creator to maintain the story's authentic feel and value.
