Worlds 2025 League of Legends: Gen.G Defeats Hanwha Life Esports on Day One!

The 2025 League of Legends Worlds competition has reached the Knockout stage, where the top eight teams from the Swiss Stage will compete for the title of this year's League of Legends (LoL) world champion. The 2025 League of Legends Worlds competition will be held in China, with the Knockout stage taking place in Shanghai. The top eight teams competing include Gen.G Esports, Hanwha Life Esports, KT Rolster, CTBC Flying Oyster, G2 Esports, Top Esports, T1, and Anyone's Legend.

The first day of the Knockout Stage of the 2025 League of Legends Worlds was nothing short of extraordinary. Two Korean giants, Gen.G Esports and Hanwha Life Esports, faced off. This match was undoubtedly a truly iconic one, considering that this 2025 League of Legends Worlds competition marked the final moment for Hanwha Life Esports jungler Han "Peanut" Wang-Ho, and we will never see him again.

Worlds 2025 League of Legends: Gen.G Dominance Ends Hanwha Life Esports' Run

Gen.G Esports faced Hanwha Life Esports in the Knockout Stage of Worlds 2025 League of Legends on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. Both teams played in a best-of-five (BO5) series, with the winner advancing to the next round, while the loser was eliminated. This was undoubtedly a highly prestigious match for both teams.

In Game 1, Gen.G appeared to be in the lead with Kiin's Aatrox and Ezreal Ruler. A teamfight in the 32nd minute proved crucial for Gen.G, as Duro's initiative paved the way for Kiin to take down three HLE players. With Peanut remaining, Gen.G players moved quickly to destroy HLE's base, ultimately securing Game 1 in the 33rd minute.

Moving into game 2, Gen.G regained the lead with Kiin's Gwen and Canyon's Jarvan IV. Peanut's Xin Zhao significantly boosted HLE's play. The match between the two teams was intense and lengthy. Varus Ruler's support also contributed significantly to Gen.G's play. Gen.G secured Baron and attempted to attack HLE.

However, HLE continued to counterattack. Ziggs' Viper's play made things difficult for Gen.G. HLE secured Baron and attempted to attack Gen.G's base, but their efforts were unsuccessful, and the game resumed. Delight's Poppy's initiation repelled Gen.G's opponents. HLE attempted to attack Gen.G's base again, but were still unsuccessful.

The game resumed, with the Baron battle occurring in the 45th minute. Kiin's Gwen regained momentum. Gen.G secured Baron and Elder Dragon, and HLE successfully ambushed Kiin. However, Gen.G moved swiftly to attack Hanwha Life's base, but this didn't end the game, and HLE pushed back the Gen.G players.

Another teamfight ensued in the mid area in the 57th minute. Canyon managed to take down Peanut. Duro and Ruler successfully followed up, cornering HLE. Viper and Zeus remained, ultimately securing Gen.G's second game, the longest in the series. In Game 3, Hanwha Life began to emerge victorious. The Trundle and Sivir combo, played by Delight and Viper, proved key to the game.

HLE was unstoppable, winning teamfight after teamfight. A teamfight ensued in the 28th minute. Delight's Rakan Initiation took down Duro, and Zeus successfully followed up with his Rumble, paving the way for victory. HLE made a straight push into the Gen.G base. A teamfight ensued, and Delight's Trundle secured another three kills, ultimately securing their first point.

In Game 4, Gen.G featured Kiin's K'Sante and Canyon's Nidalee. Kiin and Canyon performed quite well in this game, supported by Ruler's Yunara, which successfully cornered HLE. A Baron battle ensued in the 27th minute, and Gen.G secured it, leading to a swift charge towards the HLE base. Ruler's initiative took down two HLE players.

Canyon managed to take down Delight as the last player, and Gen.G ultimately secured a 3-1 victory. Gen.G's victory over HLE ended Peanut and his teammates' journey at Worlds 2025 League of Legends. This match also ended Peanut's competitive career as he was about to retire. Gen.G will face the winner of either KT Rolster or CTBC Flying Oyster next.
