The shocking news comes from the Psyonix which they announced that their signature game, Rocket League will soon available for free in the meantime. Not only that, but Psyonix also announced major updates implemented on this soccer and racing game.

In the press release that shared on Wednesday (22/7) Psyonix announced that Rocket League will receive a major update on the Tournaments and Challenge. Also, this game will add more new features such as cross-platform, Rocket Pass, and Competitive Rank by connecting the game to the player’s Epic Games account.

After being released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on Steam, Rocket League will also appear on Epic Games. The version that will be released by Epic Games is the old version that is very similar to those in Steam and other platforms, which only the difference that the Rocket League on Epic Games will be playable for free.

If you already have this game on Steam, you don’t have to worry because you can still play the game and receive feature updates in the future. But only that the Steam version won’t be available for new players.

For players who already purchased the Rocket League before the game goes free to play, later you will receive bonuses such as Legacy status in the game. This status allows you to get various items like:

• All the game’s DLCs that previously released before the game becomes free to play
• Title “Est.20xx” that will show your year starting playing the game
• Golden Cosmos Boost
• Dieci-Oro Wheels
• Huntress Player Banner
• More than 200 items with Common level that can be upgraded to Legacy

Aside from bonuses above, for players who already have Rocket League before this announcement, they will receive an extra item called Faded Cosmos Boost. This thing can be obtained after the game goes free.

This decision was rather unique because without being available for free, the game already has a massive fanbase. Since it was released five years ago on various platforms, Rocket League already has more than 75 million players. This move may be a mutual agreement between Psyonix and Epic Games.

So far, there is no clear date regarding when Rocket League will come as a free to play on Epic Games, but regarding that Psyonix said that this game will appear on “this summer”, it’s possible that this will come in a few weeks ahead.

If you currently have a plan to purchase Rocket League, it’s better to wait for a while because this game will soon come for free but if you only planned to play this game on Steam, then you have to be quick because this game will only appear exclusively on Epic Games.
