The first day of MSC 2025 EWC has delivered several surprising moments. One of the most talked-about highlights has been the debut of the new mage hero, Zetian, who has been picked in five different games throughout the opening day. However, instead of becoming an effective secret weapon, Zetian at MSC has ended up disappointing, failing to secure a single win.
Expectations for Zetian had been fairly high. As a mage equipped with a mix of crowd control and poke damage from a safe distance, many had believed she could serve as a viable alternative to Pharsa or Zhuxin in the mid lane. However, real performance on the MSC stage has told a different story. Every team that picked Zetian has suffered defeat.
Five different teams have used Zetian: Ultra Legends, ONIC, CFU Gaming, Virtus Pro, and Corinthians. Unfortunately, in all of those games, she has failed to deliver significant impact. Whether in terms of damage, zoning, or mobility, Zetian has appeared inferior when compared to other top-tier mages currently dominating the meta.
In a tournament as competitive as MSC, effectiveness is everything. Based on what has happened during the first day, Zetian at MSC so far has looked more like a liability than a reliable option. Below, we’ll break down how Zetian has performed in each match and explore why she has failed to meet expectations.
Zetian at MSC 2025: Far from Optimal
Ultra Legends debuted Zetian in their first game against Team Liquid PH. The intention had been to match the fast rotations of Sanji and Jaypee, but things did not go as planned. Zetian failed to withstand the enemy’s aggression, and Ultra Legends were defeated quickly without gaining momentum.
ONIC then tried Zetian in their opening game against CFU Gaming. Although ONIC played well as a team, Zetian didn’t provide notable impact and was outpaced by the opposing Zhuxin. ONIC lost that game before bouncing back in the next two without Zetian in the draft.
CFU Gaming also tested Zetian in game two of their series against ONIC. The result was similar: they couldn’t keep up with ONIC’s pressure, especially in terms of damage output and area control. Zetian’s weakness in mobility became evident as she struggled to respond to rapid enemy rotations.
Virtus Pro and Corinthians were the final two teams to use Zetian on Day 1. Virtus Pro drafted her against SRG OG, while Corinthians picked her versus Mythic Seal. Both matches ended in losses. In both games, Zetian appeared passive and incapable of shifting the momentum once their teams fell behind.
Overall, Zetian at MSC on the opening day has not provided a strong enough reason to remain a priority pick. Compared to Pharsa and Zhuxin—who have consistently offered zoning and reliable damage across all stages of the game—Zetian still needs further adaptation and exploration before becoming viable at the highest competitive level. Without significant changes, Zetian’s future at MSC 2025 looks increasingly grim.
