The official Twitter account for the Edens Zero franchise revealed on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, that the anime based on the manga by Hiro Mashima, the creator of Fairy Tail, will receive a second season. Edens Zero’s official Twitter account previously gave fans a teaser in October 2021. The preview revealed that the adventures of Shiki and his friends will continue.

The first season of Edens Zero premiered in Japan in April 2021, and aired a total of 25 episodes. The series is available on Netflix outside Japan on August 26, 2021.

Shinji Ishihara (Fairy Tail, Log Horizon) is the chief director of the Edens Zero anime at studio J.C. staff. Yushi Suzuki (episode director for Fairy Tail season 3) also co-directed the anime's first season, but Suzuki died on September 9, 2021. Mitsutaka Hirota (Zoids Wild, Rent-A-Girlfriend) is supervising and writing the script for the anime series. Yurika Sako (Food Wars! The Third Plate) is designing the characters for the anime Edens Zero.

Hiro Mashima (Fairy Tail, Rave Master) serialized Edens Zero in Weekly Shonen Magazine in June 2018. Kodansha Comics is also publishing the manga in English both digitally and in print. The manga also inspired a 3D action RPG genre game for several game consoles, as well as a top-down RPG for mobile devices. Konami is developing the game.
