Kakegurui Twin is an anime spin-off of the famous anime series titled Kakegurui. If you enjoyed Kakegurui, chances are you will also enjoy this spin-off anime. Kakegurui Twin is the most straightforward Kakegurui series with several episodes about Mary Saotome.

It's set a year before Yumeko Jabami's arrival at Hyakkou Private Academy and Mary herself has just enrolled at the gambling school herself. Mary was immediately captivated by the gambling school environment and decided to dive first into the world of betting, complete with various matches played against students with different personalities. An Interesting Kakegurui Spin-Off with a Different Point of View

Anyone who's liked the previous Kakegurui series will likely enjoy Kakegurui Twin. The story follows a similar premise of having a character who likes to gamble at Hyakkou Private Academy, where gambling is the only thing that matters in this school environment.

Many familiar characters from the previous Kakegurui anime series are also returning in this spin-off, all of them being Mary Saotome, Kirari Momobami, and Midari Ikishima. Mary Saotome is the main protagonist in this spin-off anime, and Yumeko Jabami is not seen in the series. This makes sense because Yumeko according to the canon only appeared a year later.

Although viewers can see familiar faces like Kaede and Ririka in this series, they are only supporting characters in this spin-off. In fact, in Kakegurui Twin there are many new characters who get a lot of screen time. Because many of the new characters appear quite interesting in their own background stories.

An Anime About Mary Saotome

The anime only covers events from the first 14 chapters of the manga, which only partially reveals the reference material available to date. Kakegurui Twin begins with Tsuzura Hanatemari offering a brief recap of the school and how gambling is the only thing that matters in the education system here.

The animation during the introductory recap of the series is reminiscent of what it was like to see people in Star vs. the Forces of Evil, before finally returning to the traditional animation that audiences expect from Studio MAPPA. This opening scene is a sweet start to the series, but unfortunately, it misses most of Kokoro Aiura's first bet with Mary Saotome, which is a bit disappointing.

This exception lessens the impact of seeing how Mary and Tsuzura's relationship first started, as well as how Mary used to hate her so much back in the day. While fans of the anime might miss that, the first few episodes of Kakegurui Twin don't look rushed.

The Kakegurui Twin anime saw Mary gamble against Yukimi Togakushi in a gambling den before moving on to the Coupling Party arc. As of August 4, 2022, Netflix will only feature six episodes. The last episode tells the story of Sakura and Mary's bet.

Kakegurui Twin features all things gambling psychology and its intricacies. It's presented in a way that's not too deep so it's not boring, and it's interesting enough to grab the attention of viewers. Likewise, there are many different and unique gambling games that leave viewers wondering how each character would cheat their opponent, if that character were to cheat.

In the end, this anime is worth watching for anyone who wants an anime set in school with some psychological aspects in it. Kakegurui Twin is a prequel to the original series in the Kakegurui saga, so anyone who watched Yumeko's crazy antics in it should love this anime spin-off as well.
