What is Anime?
Anime, sometimes called Japanimation, is hand-made or computer animation originating from Japan and has a distinctly Japanese style. The term anime itself comes from the word "animation" from English, and in Japan, the term anime is used to describe all forms of animation, regardless of country of origin and animation style as well.
However, outside of Japan, the term refers specifically to animation from Japan or a particular style of Japanese animation which is often characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant characters, and fantastical themes. This culturally abstract approach to the meaning of the word could open up the possibility of anime being produced in countries other than Japan.
The earliest known commercial Japanese animation in history dates back to 1917. A very distinctive style of animation emerged during the 1960s with the work of Osamu Tezuka and spread in the second half of the 20th century, gaining popularity not only in Japan but worldwide. Anime originally started as a form of show shown in cinemas and television, but later expanded to other media, such as video games and the internet.
Production methods and techniques related to anime have adapted over time in response to emerging and evolving technologies, meaning that animation techniques have become more and more sophisticated over time.
Anime is also a multimedia art form that incorporates printmaking, characterization, cinematography, and other creative techniques. Anime production usually focuses less on motion animation and more on the realism of settings and the use of camera effects, including panning, zooming, and angle shots.
In anime, there’s a wide array of art styles used, and character proportions and features can vary widely, including large or realistically sized emotive eyes. Anime is classified into various genres targeting a broad or specific target audience, with different age groups, genders, and so on. The modern anime industry already comprises more than 430 production studios, with big names including MAPPA, Studio Ghibli, Gainax, Toei Animation, Studio Pierrot and other popular anime studios.
What is Manga?
Manga is a Japanese term that refers to comic books and/or graphic novels originating in Japan. Manga is very popular both within Japan and around the world. The term manga has a much broader meaning in Japanese, referring to both comic books and comic cartoons. But outside of Japan, the word manga is usually used to refer to comic books or graphic novels originating in Japan. Manga has a very specific style, which is associated with Japanese drawing styles from the 19th century, although its predecessors are present throughout the history of Japanese fine arts.
In Japan, manga is very popular with people of all age groups. Manga covers a wide range of different genres and topics, some of which are action, adventure, business and commerce, comedy, detective, drama, history, horror, mystery, romance, science fiction, and fantasy, erotica (hentai), sports, games , and Thrillers. In addition there are also various other genres and subgenres. The popularity of the manga medium has seen it distributed worldwide and translated into many different languages. Since the 1950s, manga has become a major part of the Japanese publishing industry. The increasing popularity of manga outside of Japan has also contributed to the increase in income for manga artists, also known as mangaka.
Manga comics are usually printed in black and white. The main reason is the much faster production time for printing black-and-white materials, but there are other reasons as well such as low cost and a distinct artistic reason, as tinting can reduce the impact of the artwork. Even so, there are also full-color manga available, one example is the manga entitled Colorful.
In Japan, manga is usually serialized in various manga magazines whose names are big enough, and often contain many stories, each of which is presented in one episode to be continued in the next issue of the magazine. That's how manga serialization generally works, though historically, serial publishing has also been popular in Western countries.
Manga chapters are usually gathered and republished in books called tankoubon volumes, which are often in paperback book form. A manga artist usually works with a few assistants in a small studio and is associated with a creative editor from a commercial publishing company.
If a manga series is deemed popular enough, it may be animated after or during the manga's story, which is why there are so many anime series based on manga. Occasionally, there are also manga based on pre-existing live-action or animated films.

Difference between Anime & Manga
As we can conclude for ourselves, anime is a term that refers to animation, namely animated films and animated TV shows. Anime works do have their own style and outside of Japan, they are usually associated with Japanese-style animation. On the other hand, manga refers to Japanese-style comic books, illustrated in a distinctive style, but not always identical to anime.
The difference lies in the fact that anime & manga are two different types of media originating from the same country. Anime refers to the film industry, whereas manga is a part of the comic book industry. That is the main difference between anime & manga.
Regarding its popularity, we can say that anime is more popular outside of Japan and more accessible, because people outside of Japan prefer television and movies. Meanwhile, manga is more popular in Japan, because reading is considered a hobby by Japanese people who are always diligent, who usually don't have the free time to just sit in front of the television.
There is also a particular difference where the anime can work better than the manga, and that is in the fight scenes. Anime can produce fight scenes with a powerful delivery, the One Punch Man series is a great example of this. Saitama VS Boros is a fight scene with incredible power, fighting on earth, giant spaceship, and being blown up to the moon.
While the manga actually does a great job of making this fight what it is, the anime takes it a few steps further. That anime scene is one of the best fight scenes in many people's opinion.
Anime of course has a huge advantage in that manga is limited to a few frames per page, but anime has thousands of frames in a matter of minutes. Animation also has musical capabilities and sound effects that give us a different experience when watching a battle scene.
