Dojutsu, literally meaning “eye technique”, is a special kekkei genkai that can only be used by ninja that owns a certain pair of eyes. Every dojutsu has its power; it can read chakra flow, can release genjutsu, control gravity, and manipulate blood flow.

Let’s take a look at the strongest dojutsu that exists in Naruto! 

1. Byakugan

Meaning White Eye is a Kekkei Genkai owned by the Hyuuga Clan and Otsutsuki. The eye is an inheritance for the humans on earth left by Kaguya Otsutsuki. Byakugan activates when the owner is feeling pressured or stressed on a fight/battle.

When it’s successfully activated, the user can see through almost everything from 360 degrees -- with the only blind spot on the back of the neck. Byakugan also enables the user to see the chakra flow of other people and byakugan can also decipher if a genjutsu is being used on other people so the user can break it.

Kaguya can improve the power of byakugan giving it the power to read mind and feeling and also multiply the distance of using a genjutsu. 

2. Sharingan

A Kekkei Genkai passed down by Hagoromo Otsutsuki to his son, Indra, and his descendants the Uchiha Clan. Only the Uchihas that felt the pain of losing the object of their affection can activate Sharingan.

When it’s activated, the user can read the reaction of others. But at first, their body will have a hard time adjusting to their new eye. Sharingan gives the user two abilities:

1. Eye of Insight: the user can see chakra and can read and also copy/mimic other people and almost every jutsu they see.
2. Eye of Hypnotism: Can put anyone that makes eye contact with the user in a genjutsu

3. Rinnegan

Rinnegan is the strongest eye from “Three Great Dojutsu”. Rinnegan is a rare power that only appears when someone receives chakra from the Otsutsuki Clan or their descendants or by combining Sharingan with Hashirama Cell.

The rarity results in giving its user powerful abilities like the ability to master 5 Chakra Release, control gravity, create black rods to transmit the chakra and control the body of other people, and open another dimension and absorb chakra.

4. Ketsuryugan

Dojutsu owned by Chinoike Clan that giving them the nickname “ eyes as red as blood”. As the title suggests, the users can manipulate iron or more accurately liquid with high iron concentration, so they can make someone explode by breaking all the veins.

5. Rinne Sharingan

It’s similar to RInnegan and Sharingan because Rinne Sharingan is the origin of that two dojutsus and first owned by Kaguya after she consumes the Chakra Fruit. Not just Kabuya, but anyone that successfully transforms in 10 tailed Jinchuuriki can also activate the eye in their forehead.

Rinne Sharingan gives the power for someone to cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi genjutsu. The eye also gives Kaguya Amenominaka, the power to teleport herself and those around her to an alternate dimensions

6. Tenseigan

Owned by Hamura Otsutsuki and his descendants living on the moon, Tenseigan means Reincarnation Eye. Originally the eye is a Kekkei Genkai just for the moon residents, but someone can activate it by combining the Otsutsuki chakra with “pure” Byakugan eye from the Hyuuga Clan.

Similar to Rinnegan, the eye gives the user the ability to control gravity and also move the moon, creating giant boulders, create Gudodama and wrap their body in Chakra Mode to strengthen themselves.

7. Jogan

A mysterious eye owned by Boruto that suddenly activates on its own. The origin of the eye is still unclear but normally will activate when Boruto focuses his attention on someone unconsciously.

It was said that this dojutsu is related to the Otsutsuki Clan and the power is a combination of Byakugan and reading negative emotion owned by Naruto/9tailed beast. The dojutsu also enables Boruto to see the interdimensional doors.

8. Mangekyo Sharingan

The improvement of regular Sharingan. Not only it changes the appearance, but the eye also gives an Uchiha a greater power. Summoning Susano’o aura that can help them in a fight any various abilities like Amaterasu, the mind control genjutsu Kotoamatsukami, or teleportation ability Kamui.

But Mangekyo Sharingan will only activate when the user went through the heavy trauma of witnessing the death of someone close to them and the power can only be made permanent by transplanting the eye of an Uchiha with strong blood ties -- normally siblings. Which is the reason why the Uchiha Clan created a tradition to kill someone close to them to receive this power. 

Other Dojutsu 

Beside the dojutsus listed above, there are other Kekkei Genkai such as:

1. Ranmaru Eye: Have a similar power to Byuakugan, see through an object from the distance, breaking a genjutsu, and healing through chakra.
2. Shion’s Eye: Appears on Naruto Shippuden the Movie, a female priest named Shion can see the future with her eyes.
3. Yome’s Eye: Similar to the Sharingan, the eye gives Yome the ability to react faster than normal humans
