Who doesn't know Ghost Rider, the skull-faced and fire-haired motorcyclist? Ghost Rider is actually one of the most iconic Marvel anti-heroes ever. After receiving a live-action movie starring Nicolas Cage in 2007, nothing stopped The Ghost Rider's fame, as people started reading comics about this mythical creature.
Over the years, there have been many people in the Marvel Universe who have become Ghost Riders, but the first person, Johnathon Blaze, will be remembered forever. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D from Marvel Television also showed off their own version of Ghost Rider, Robbie Reyes. Are you curious about the Spirit of Vengeance? Here are some interesting facts about Ghost Rider.
1. He can Ride His Motorcycle on Water
Since his comic book debut, Ghost Rider's motorcycle has proven to be one of the most powerful anti-heroes in his battle against the forces of evil. His motorcycle's supernatural abilities have given Ghost Rider lucrative powers over the years, and those powers have allowed the Fiery Avenger to perform seemingly impossible abilities, such as sprinting faster than Thor's hammer moves, and Ghost Rider can ride his motorcycle across water.
This proved to be very useful in urgent situations. In fact, Johnny Blaze has utilized this ability several times throughout his superhero career. Indeed, riding a motorcycle with flames on water makes absolutely no sense. However, seeing how Ghost Rider's motorcycle functioned against the powers of another world, it was clear this ability could be possessed by the motorized skull.
2. His Strength Depends on the User’s Imagination
Thanks to his supernatural abilities, Ghost Rider is considered one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe. He's faced off against various superheroes, and he even scared off the Hulk in the "World War Hulk" storyline. What many fans may not know about Ghost Rider's impressive power is that there's a very strange trick to unlocking his full potential. In 2011, a woman named Alejandra Jones became the new Ghost Rider.
Jones displays a variety of different abilities that have never been seen in a Ghost Rider or any other Spirit of Vengeance. As it turned out, this happened because the Spirit of Vengeance's level of power only depended on the imagination of the person using it. Basically, the Spirit of Vengeance is a being with unlimited potential, and all it takes is a creative individual to fully utilize it.
3. Penance Stare Sometimes Can't Work Optimally
Among his great powers, Penance Stare is without a doubt one of the most dangerous assets Ghost Rider has. His abilities made his victims look him in the eyes and make them feel all the pain they have inflicted on others over the years. This has proven to be very useful in various battles over the years. However, to Ghost Rider's dismay, that power also proves to be a bit unreliable at times.
For starters, the stare won't work on mentally ill people, on beings with more than two eyes, and has even proven ineffective on certain superpowered individuals. In the comic Thunderbolt #29, for example, the Punisher is shown to be completely immune to Penance Stare due to his lack of remorse for his lifestyle of killing other people. Furthermore, the attack also didn't work on Venom, Deadpool, and even the Hulk.
4. His Car Trunk is a Portal
Robbie Reyes' Ghost Rider is very different from what most fans of the Spirits of Vengeance comic book know. One of Robbie Reyes' biggest differences from other Spirits of Vengeance is the means of transportation. Instead of using a motorcycle, Reyes drove a '69 Dodge Charger, also known as the "Hell Charger."
The car has a few bells and whistles, but one of its most surprising features is the trunk that doubles as a portal. In the comic Ghost Rider Vol. 1, Robbie Reyes saves his younger brother, Gabe, from a gang conflict. To get him out of the danger area, the anti-hero put the boy in the trunk of his car. This resulted in Gabe being safely and quickly transported to Robbie's workplace, away from the conflict area.
5. He Can Control His Chains With His Mind
During the early 1990s, Marvel Comics introduced the new Ghost Rider, Daniel Ketch. Ketch's version of Spirit of Vengeance is very different from Johnny Blaze's Ghost Rider. One of the biggest differences between these two antiheroes is their weapon of choice. Unlike Blaze, who prefers to fight with his fists, Ketch relies on mystical chains linked to his mentality.
As weird as it sounds, Ketch uses his brain to change the shape of the chains and turn them into a variety of different weapons, such as sticks and even shurikens.
Ketch can also stretch his chains as much as he wants, making them invaluable support in his battle against the forces of Hell. As time went on, Johnny Blaze adopted the chain, and various strange mystical items became indispensable tools among Ghost Rider's weapon collection.

6. He Takes Cyborg Form in Version 2099
In the 1990s, Marvel introduced Universe 2099, a new line of comics centered around future versions of some of its most popular characters. One of the heroes who received the futuristic treatment was Ghost Rider. Surprisingly, Marvel threw away the mystical impression of Ghost Rider and turned it into a technology-based hero. In the comics, a reckless hacker named Kenshiro Cochrane is killed by a gang when he tries to steal some important information.
Shortly after his death, Cochrane awakens in a digital universe known as Ghostworlds. There, a group of artificial intelligence programs convince Cochrane to return to the real world as their savior to prevent the destruction of mankind. Kenshiro accepted it, and his mind was downloaded into a robot body that was almost identical to the original Ghost Rider, and thus, the future version of this ruthless anti-hero was born.
7. Frank Castle Becomes a Future Ghost Rider
The Ghost Rider curse has been carried by many over the years, most notably by Johnny Blaze, Danny Ketch, and Alejandra Jones. However, maybe not many fans know that there is another famous Marvel character who uses Spirit of Vengeance, namely The Punisher.
The comic Thanos #13 introduces the mysterious and highly sarcastic Ghost Rider from a future where the Mad Titan rules the universe.
In the comic issue of Thanos #15, the new Ghost Rider is revealed to be Frank Castle. As it turned out, Castle died during Thanos' invasion of earth and was sent to hell. There, he makes a deal with Mephisto and becomes the new Spirit of Vengeance to take revenge on the Mad Titan. However, to his dismay, Thanos has exterminated every living soul in the universe. This drives Castle crazy, and he ends up choosing to become the servant of the Mad Titan.
8. He Can Eat Human Sins
Thanks to her seemingly limitless imagination, Alejandra Jones' version of Ghost Rider is able to unlock a vast amount of exciting powers that have never been used by any other Spirit of Vengeance host. One of those abilities happens to be complete control over human sin. This allows Jones to do various things, such as scan a person's sins thoroughly, and eat away at those sins.
In reality, whenever Jones rids someone of their sins, they are left in a strange vegetative state of being unable to do anything for themselves.
9. Can Move Faster Than Thor's Hammer
The Ghost Rider motorcycle has done some incredible feats over the years, but very few compared to the moment it beat Thor's hammer in Avengers #214. This comic shows Johnny Blaze facing off against a member of X-Man named Angel. Unable to contain himself, Blaze beats the mutant to a pulp and leaves him in a coma. The Avengers learn of the attack, and they decide to track down Ghost Rider to stop him from harming others.
The Avengers finally found Blaze, but they soon realized they were no match for him. In an attempt to weaken Ghost Rider, Thor threw Mjolnir at him. To his surprise, Blaze jumped onto his motorbike and was able to quickly outmaneuver Thor's hammer. Blaze then grabbed Mjolnir, rode it back to Thor and used his momentum to deal a devastating blow to the God of Thunder. No wonder Blaze is considered one of the best racers in the Marvel Universe.
10. The First Ghost Rider Was a Cowboy
It may be easy to forget, but Ghost Rider doesn't start out as a demon seeking revenge. This true superhero identity debuted in the comic Ghost Rider #1, in 1967. In the story, a young man named Carter Slade finds a group of people disguised as Native Americans beating other people. Slade tried to stop them, but he was shot several times as a result. Fortunately, Carter was found by a group of Native Americans.
The men took Carter to their tribal shaman, and he was immediately resurrected. After his resurrection, Slade is told that he is a messenger of the Great Spirit, a warrior destined to protect the innocent. Carter plays his role as Ghost Rider. After the debut of Johnny Blaze's version of Ghost Rider, Slade became known as Phantom Rider, and he has maintained a relatively small presence in the Marvel Universe ever since.
