1. His Name Comes from the Word Lux

As usual, the name of a manga and anime character means everything. The most important characters usually end with the most symbolic names. Natsu is a Fire Dragon Slayer with a more fiery disposition, so of course, the name Natsu actually means Summer in Japanese.

The Laxus Dreyar gets its name from the word Lux, which is the standard unit of measure for illumination and light emission. Although the character originally didn't have the power he now has, it's clear he was given that name to bring light into the Dreyar family.

2. His Personality Changed After He Lost His Father

Interestingly enough, when we see flashbacks of Laxus Dreyar, they always portray him as a sweet little boy who loves his grandfather Makarov. He doesn't seem like the kind of person who would grow up to be the bad guy we met in the Battle for Fairy Tail arc.

What changed his personality was when Makarov ostracized his father Ivan Dreyar. That incident and Laxus' inability to live up to Makarov's great shadow turns him into someone much more sinister, who only cares about the power aspect.

3. Laxus Almost Made Makarov Resign from the Guild

The Battle for Fairy Tail arc seems small enough in retrospect, but it almost destroyed the guild. Laxus Dreyar did his best to try to turn the guild into something he thought people would respect, and in doing so, Laxus risked the lives of many guild members, both turned to stone and those who fought with each other as fellow guild members.

Makarov had no choice but to expel him from the guild. But he wasn't just satisfied with proving that Laxus' actions were unacceptable, and because Makarov was embarrassed, the Fairy Tail guild master almost left the guild himself. This is understandable, considering that for the sake of the guild's integrity it means that Makarov has to excommunicate his son and grandson, but the other guild members refuse to let Makarov leave Fairy Tail.

4. He's a Second Generation Dragon Slayer

When many people think of Dragon Slayer, they usually think of people like Natsu or Gajeel or Wendy, i.e. people who were actually taught the magical arts of Dragon Slayer by real dragons as the most powerful mystical beings on the planet.

But not all types of Dragon Slayers develop their powers this way. Laxus Dreyar is a Second Generation Dragon Slayer, which means he gets the power he has by possessing a special lacrima, a form of magical energy that crystallizes and is placed within his body.

Before Laxus Dreyar joined the Fairy Tail guild as a good person, he always wore headphones. Even though the series is set in a world before modern technology was invented, these headphones really don't work, the headphone runs on magic and can even store songs in a magic database. Chapter 69 of the Fairy Tail manga also reveals that Laxus' favorite music genre is old school rock and roll.

6. Actually He Could Be A Member Of Wizard Saints

Laxus Dreyar's power is simply incredible, and he truly stands out as one of the top 5 members of the Fairy Tail story when measured by his pure strength for the entire series. Laxus even came face to face with Jura Neekis of the Lamia Scale guild, who became a member of the Ten Wizard Saints.

Despite Jura's overwhelming strength, which was enough to take down Sabertooth, Jura was still not strong enough to defeat Laxus. This victory made some people speculate whether Laxus should be a member of the Wizard Saints, but according to chapter 352 this idea was discarded because they thought Laxus' attitude was too rowdy.
