Insect Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics insects, specifically their lethal sting and movements. Most of the known techniques of Insect Breathing include stabbing and making cuts with a sword coated with a special wisteria flower-based poison to inflict damage on the targets.

The users of the Insect Breathing Style also visualize themselves seemingly manifesting insects (such as butterflies) when unleashing the techniques.

2. She Created Insect Breathing to Cover Her Flaw

This technique was specifically designed by Shinobu Kocho to offset her lack of physical strength to cut off a demon’s head. Therefore, she’s the only one who can use this technique effectively as it requires a unique katana with a needle-like tip, which appearance and functions also resemble that of an insect sting.

3. Uses a Unique Nichirin Katana to Inject Poison

To help her defeat Upper-Rank Demons, Shinobu has altered her body to contain a certain dose of wisteria poison. She managed to absorb highly concentrated poison over the period of a year and it had merged with the cell structure of her body – including blood, internal organs, down to her nails.

Although Shinobu isn’t as talented as the other Hashira when it comes to combat, she makes up for this shortcoming by being an expert in the medical and pharmaceutical fields that allows her to concoct various deadly poisons using wisteria flowers.

She creates poisons that can be used to kill her targets in seconds – and even weakening Upper-Rank Demons.

Shinobu can also create poisons that are deadly towards demons yet with minimum effect to her own body.

7. She’s Really Friendly

8. Her Personality Changed After the Death of Her Sister

As a child, Shinobu was outspoken and often brash. She also easily lost her temper – and this was shown when Kanae tried to save Kanao Tsuyuri.

But after the death of her sister, Shinobu began to behave more like Kanae and developed her positive attitude and mannerisms to control her temper.

Shinobu’s older sister, Kanae Kocho, was the Flower Hashira before she was replaced by Shinobu. Kanae was a kind-hearted and easy-going girl.

Kanae was killed in a battle against the second-highest Upper-Rank Demon, Doma, after sustaining fatal injuries.
