Koji Suzuki's The Ring (Ringu) novel series inspired a new horror film titled Sadako DX which will be released in the fall of 2022. Actress Fuka Koshiba will play Fuka Ichijo, a bright student with an IQ of 200 who tries to unravel Sadako's curse. The shooting process for the film Sadako DX is reported to have been completed. Hisashi Kimura is directing this film. Yuya Takahashi (Lupine the IIIrd: Fujiko Mine's Lie, Kamen Rider Ex-Aid) is writing the script.

Koji Suzuki's The Ring novel series inspired the horror franchise of the same name. The Japanese version of The Ring spans two timelines. The first film, Ring, debuted in 1998, and a sequel, Spiral, followed later that year.

Ring 2 premiered in 1999, and Ring: Birthday debuted in 2000. The franchise also includes the two 3D Sadako films, as well as the new Sadako film, which opened in Japan in May 2019.

Distributor Arrow Video released The Ringu Collection Blu-ray Disc in North America in October 2019. The film collection includes Ring, Rasen (Spiral), Ring 2, and Ring: Birthday.

The first The Ring film received a Hollywood remake in 2002, and has two film sequels. A new Hollywood version of the film titled Rings was released in February 2017.

Additionally, Japan's The Ring franchise has made a crossover film titled Sadako vs. Kayako in 2016 through a collaboration with the horror franchise Ju-on. Dark Horse has released several adaptations of The Ring manga in English.
