ASMIK Ace's official YouTube channel began streaming a clip on Thursday, April 28, 2022 of Shochiku's xxxHOLiC live-action adaptation of CLAMP's manga. The xxxHOLiC  live-action video shows Ryunosuke Kamiki (Soujiro Seta in the Rurouni Kenshin live-action film) who plays Watanuki and Hokuto Matsumura who becomes Doumeki fighting together.

xxxHOLiC tells the story of Yuuko, a witch who can grant other people's wishes, but in return that person must give up something precious to them. The manga also tells of Kimihiro Watanuki, a man who has the power to see the invisible.

One day, Watanuki meets Yuuko and she promises to get rid of the evil spirits that torment her. In return Watanuki has to work at Yuuko's place to help her grant the wishes of others.

Ryunosuke Kamiki plays Kimihiro Watanuki, while Kou Shibasaki plays Yuuko Ichihara. Other actors in the live action xxxHOLiC are Hokuto Matsumura as Shizuka Doumeki, Tina Tamashiro as Himawari Kunogi, Daoko as Marudashi "Maru", and Serena Motola as Morodashi "Moro".

There is also Shuri as Misaki, Nanase Nishino as Nekomusume, Sakurako Hara as a guest who is possessed by Ayakashi, Tenchim as a customer at Yuuko's shop who wants her wish granted, Ai Hashimoto as the spirit of Zashiki-Warashi who is in love, Riho Yoshioka as Jorоgumo, and Hayato Isomura as Akagumo.

Mika Ninagawa (Sakuran live-action, Helter Skelter) is directing this live action xxxHOLiC film, with a script written by Erika Yoshida. Keiichiro Shibuya is in charge of composing the soundtrack. The band SEKAI NO OWARI performed the film's theme song "Habit". The live action film xxxHOLiC will be released in Japan on April 29.

CLAMP serialized the xxxHOLiC manga in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine and Bessatsu Shounen Magazine from 2003 to 2011, although the name was changed to xxxHOLiC: Rou in 2009. xxxHOLiC: Rei is his latest manga series, launched in 2013.

The franchise also spawned an anime film, two seasons of an anime series, and several OVA projects. The manga is also inspiring a stage play adaptation that takes place in Tokyo and Kyoto in September and October in 2021.
