Netflix's New Death Note Live-Action Series Recruits Abdel-Meguid as Writer!
Netflix's new live-action series based on Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's Death Note manga has hired Halia Abdel-Meguid as writer and executive producer.

Entertainment news website Deadline reported on Thursday, October 20, 2022 that Netflix's new live-action series based on Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's Death Note manga has hired Halia Abdel-Meguid (Miss Annity, The Devil in the White City) as writer and executive producer. Deadline describes Abdel-Meguid as a "long-time fan" of Death Note, and someone who speaks fluent Japanese having previously lived in Tokyo.
Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer (Stranger Things), also known as the Duffer Brothers, are co-developing Netflix's Death Note live-action series in their new Upside Down production studio. Abdel-Meguid is a writing consultant for the studio adaptation Upside Down of Stephen King and Peter Straub's novel The Talisman. The Death Note series is planned to be a new perspective on Netflix's previous Death Note live-action films.
Netflix released the Death Note live-action film directed by Adam Wingard in August 2017. The film stars Nat Wolff as Light Turner, Keith Stanfield as L, Margaret Qualley as Mia Sutton, Willem Dafoe as the voice of Ryuk, Paul Nakauchi as Watari, and Shea Whigham as James Turner.
The Death Note manga also inspired a 37-episode anime series from 2006 to 2007.
