The editorial department of Young Animal magazine and Hakusensha manga creator Kouji Mori announced on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, that the late Kentarou Miura's Berserk manga will resume, starting in this year's 13th issue of Young Animal magazine on June 24, 2022. The first Berserk will have six chapters that will continue, until the end of the "Bac Fantasia Arc/Elf Island," with a new arc starting afterward.

Going forward, the Berserk manga will now have the following credits: "Original work by Kentarou Miura, manga by Studio Gaga, supervised by Kouji Mori."

Studio Gaga is the studio where Miura and his assistants and students are also working on the Berserk manga. Mori is a close friend of Miura, who often consults with Miura for plot details about the manga. Mori said in his statement that he knew the story of Berserk to the end. Mori drew a one-shot manga in Young Animal magazine last year that tells the story of her lifelong friendship and creative relationship with Miura.

In his statement, Mori noted that he had been discussing the ending of the Berserk manga with Miura since the iconic manga show "Eclipse" 30 years ago. After Miura died, he thought about discussing the ending through an interview, or through some illustrations with accompanying articles, but thought this method was not enough.

He welcomed Studio Gaga's offer to continue with the manga, and promised to remember as many details as possible and tell his story, as well as reassuring readers that even though his story isn't perfect, he thinks Mori can almost tell the story he wants and has been told by Miura. Both Mori and the editorial department of Young Animal magazine promised not to deviate from Miura's own words.

The 41st volume of Berserk, which includes the final chapter Miura created for the series, launched in Japan on December 24, 2021. Dark Horse Comics will publish the volume in November 2022.

The manga's 41st volume release is available in a regular and special edition, the latter including special canvas artwork and a drama CD. Miura drew the canvas artwork that adorned the special edition of the 41st volume. The drama CD features the return of the anime cast and depicts a key chapter titled "The Awakening" of the manga, which has not been featured in any manga or anime adaptation of Berserk. Makoto Fukami is also returning to write the script for his drama CD.

Miura died on May 6, 2021 due to acute aortic dissection at the age of 54. Since the announcement of Miura's death, entertainment creators in Japan and around the world have expressed their condolences.
