Twin Engine revealed on Monday, October 24, 2022 that the second season of the anime series based on Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga manga will premiere on January 9, 2023 on Netflix, Crunchyroll, Tokyo MX, BS11, and Gifu Broadcasting. The Vinland Saga anime will also air on AT-X.

Twin Engine has also started streaming a new trailer video for the Vinland Saga season 2 anime which reveals Anonymouz's opening theme song "River." The anime will stream on Netflix and Crunchyroll.

The returning cast members from the previous season of Vinland Saga are:

1. Yuto Uemura as Thorfinn
2. Kensho Ono as Canute
3. Akio Ohtsuka as Thorkell
4. Yōji Ueda as Leif Ericson

The new cast members for this season include:

1. Shunsuke Takeuchi as Einar
2. Mayumi Sako as Arnheid
3. Fuminori Komatsu as Snake
4. Yuu Hayashi as Olmar
5. Taiten Kusunoki as Thorgil
6. Hideaki Tezuka as Ketil
7. Mugihito as Sverkel

The staff of the first season of Vinland Saga anime will return for a second season which was worked on at the animation studio MAPPA and not at Wit Studio anymore. Shuhei Yabuta (Inuyashiki Last Hero director, Attack on Titan 3D director) is back to direct the Vinland Saga season 2 anime. Hiroshi Seko (Banana Fish, Ajin: Demi-Human) is back overseeing and writing the series script. Takahiko Abiru (Hunter × Hunter 2011 animation director) is returning to design characters. Yutaka Yamada (Tokyo Ghoul, Donten ni Warau Gaiden: Ketsubetsu, Yamainu no Chikai) is composing the music again.

Previously, the first season of this anime, which tells about the exploration of the Vikings, premiered in July 2019. Amazon Prime Video streamed the anime both in Japan and outside Japan. Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime for a home video release version. HIDIVE and Netflix began streaming the series in July.
